Muiderslot Castle

           Approaching Castle

On Jan. 24th, a beautiful sunny day, we went to see this
favorite Castle of Hein's. My first trip to a real Castle! It's
about 5 miles from Amsterdam and about 20 miles West of where
we live. This castle was built in the 1200's and when the Earle
of Holland was murdered the people demolished this castle and
then it was rebuilt in the 1300's. It is very well maintained
today, as you can see by the scaffolding at one of the towers
which they are repairing. We weren't able to go inside
as it is not open to the public until April. When we are allowed
inside, I think Hein will have a problem getting me back out of
it. You will see in the subsequent pics how truely gorgeous it is.

Closer pic of the Castle. This one shows a good view of the moat.
The Castle is about 120 feet square and the walls
     are about 5 feet thick.
