Brigid was a "One-Of-A-Kind" Lady that it was my good fortune to have known and I'm writing this memorial about her so that you may get to know a little of her as well as to try to ease the pain in my heart because of the loss of this dear friend. I met her in Rocky Point, Mexico about 8 years ago and an instant bond took place. She and her husband, Ron, who spent most of their time travelling, loved to spend the winter months on the warm beaches there. They traveled and lived in motor homes and boats and spent some time visiting where I lived in Phoenix, AZ, parking their camper in the back yard. For a few years they had a narrow boat in England and I went there for two weeks to enjoy the hospitality which Brigid always had plenty of. She was always a gracious host and did everything to make guests comfortable. For the last couple of years they've been travelling around the world and I'm sure that now there are people in every corner of the globe who will remember Brigid with a smile on their face.Brigid always had a smile, a cheerful word, a way of making everyone love her. She became so close to me that when my Mother died, she was the only one I could think of that I wanted to help me. At the time they were vacationing in California and even cut their trip short so that she could be there when I needed her. I even began to think of her as the mother I had lost. When I made the decision to move to Holland to be with Hein, her approval of my adventure was very important to me and was delighted when I received it. She was a wonderful cook and I'll never forget her leg 'o lamb or her corned beef and cabbage. And she taught me a thing or two about making delicious meals simply which she had to know with living in motor homes and boats and not always having every conceivable convenience. But then, I have always felt that there was nothing Brigid couldn't do. She had been born in a small village in Ireland and moved to the Unites States as a young woman to "seek her fortune". There she met Ron who was from Canada and they were constant companions until now. When they started their Round-the-World travels, Ron wrote e-mails with photos about their trip to friends and I have been turning this story into a web page. If you'd like to see it, their site is: http://www.stompinron.com... It has now turned into a labor of love for me as I'm working on it. I will always cherish memories of times spent with them, parties they attended (and sang at), laughter, jokes, tears, hugs, ... and will be forever grateful that she was able to meet my new husband and spend a few days with me during a time that I now know were her last days. |
