Wedding Trip - First Day

On the first day of our trip we went to York which is one of Hein's favorite places. Unfortunately we were only there for one day and there just wasn't enough time to see everything. Here's a little tour, though.

York WallThe Hotel we stayed in was about a block from this old city wall. All of these old cities were originally built with fortifications to protect the city and the castles. There is enough of this wall remaining that you can still walk on top of it around most of the entire city.

Hein on York Wall

Here is Hein on top of the wall. This wall and buildings that you see were built in the 12th Century. Amazing that they are still in such good shape! Actually, that is one of the things that constantly amaze me here in Europe. Well, "they just don't build 'em like they used to".

This little church is something you'll have to see if you get to York. It's Trinity Trinity ChurchChurch and while the outside looks quaint and picturesque, the inside is unusual indeed! Below you see a photo of the inside of the church and a blow up of the stained glass window behind the altar.Inside Trinity Church

What makes this unusual is that instead of rows of pews, there are closed boxes with individual doors on them and people sit on each side facing each other as you can see in the photo of me sitting in one of them.

St. Savior on the PavementThe name of this church is St. Savior on the Pavement. This is one Gray's Gardens of the churches that we didn't get to go through because, unfortunately, time did just not allow it. And the photo below is a garden at Gray's Mansion. And in the back of the photo you can see the wall that we walked on. The view of this garden was even more beautiful from the wall. And, yep, there was actually a bit of sun for awhile.

Now on to More of York.          Next page
